Ocean View School District in Oxnard, Ventura County, California today announced that it will be serving meals to students under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the 2025-2026 school year. All students will be served breakfast and lunch at no charge under the California Universal Meals Program at the following sites: Laguna Vista, Mar Vista, Tierra Vista, OVEES, OVJH

We are pleased to inform you that the Ocean View School District and Ocean View Early Education School will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2025-2026 School Year.

Schools that participate in the CEP are able to provide healthy breakfasts and lunches each day at no charge for all students enrolled in that CEP school during the 2025-2026 School Year.

California’s Summer EBT program, known as SUN Bucks, is returning in 2025. This food program provides families $40 per month for food in June, July, and August ($120 total) when children do not have access to school meals.

Most children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through a school meal application or Universal Benefits Application, or get CalFresh, CalWORKs, and/or Medi-Cal, are automatically enrolled. Children in foster care, experiencing homelessness, attending Head Start, and/or are considered a runaway are also categorically eligible and are automatically enrolled. For cardholder assistance, the SUN Bucks helpline is available at (877) 328-9677. The helpline provides automated support 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Ocean View has been identified by the Chef Ann Foundation as one of the premier examples for school meals in the country. They have asked us to host a hands-on opportunity for 5 Chef Ann Fellows from around the country April 8 - 10th. The goal of the visit is to demonstrate best practices in scratch cooked school food, local food systems, and sustainable practices.

The goal is simple: to ensure that every district in California has access to fresh, local, organic strawberries for their students. This is one step toward the ultimate goal of providing 100% organic meals for California students, in line with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond's vision to dramatically increase the availability of organic, fresh, and healthy foods in California schools.

Why Organic? Strawberries top the EWG’s Dirty Dozen list as the most pesticide-contaminated produce item. In Ventura County alone, 32 million pounds of pesticides were sprayed on farms and fields over five years—chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and environmental devastation.

By purchasing organic strawberries throughout strawberry season, we are protecting student health, supporting farmworkers, and strengthening local food systems!
