Did you know? A well nourished child who starts the day with breakfast is more likely to be at school, a better learner, and willing to participate in the classroom. Research has shown students who eat school breakfast have improved academic performance, reduced behavior problems, and better overall health. OVSD offers a breakfast in the classroom program at our elementary sites as well as two opportunities to have breakfast at our Junior High! Before the Bell or during Second Chance. Are you students joining us?

Through generous grant support from the California Department of Food & Agriculture, OVSD Food & Nutrition Services is proud to launch the Edible Education Program. The goal of the Edible Education Program is to bolster farm-to-school programming at OVSD through sustainable agricultural programming that connects classrooms, cafeterias and communities.

EDIBLE EDUCATION RESOURCES

With the Organic Bulk Milk Program, OVSD is able to bring fresh, local, organic Straus Family Creamery milk to our cafeterias. Implementing bulk organic milk: Offers high quality, pesticide/antibiotic/hormone-free milk to support the health of our children, farmers, land, climate, and cows. Crafted with pure, simple ingredients, and minimally processed. No gums, thickeners, stabilizers, artificial ingredients, or coloring agents are ever used in our milk.

NOW SERVING STRAUSS FAMILY FARMS ORGANIC BULK MILK (and yogurt!)

All students enrolled at OVSD receive breakfast and lunch meals NO cost! This is available through the Community Eligibiltiy Provision, also known as CEP.

We believe in Healthy School Food! All of our lunches are made with whole ingredients, scratch cooked daily. We source local and organic ingredietns whenever possible.

OUR MENUS MOVED ONLINE

The Chef Ann Foundation (CAF) and California’s Community Colleges and Ocean View School District  have partnered in the development of a pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and fellowship program that will build and sustain the workforce, networks, and leaders needed to transform healthy school food in California. We are looking for an apprentice to join us at Ocean View School District as we scratch cook for the future.

The programs will provide California’s Community College students, incumbent school food service staff, and displaced or transitional workers in related industries with education and hands-on experience in operating healthy K-12 school meal programs.

The Healthy School Food Pathway program is excited to welcome its second cohort of pre-apprentices in Fall 2023.
